Cleaning Procedure
Remove any RTV sealant-(1) from the engine frontcover usingEN 28410remover.Clean out debris from the bolt holes.Clean the engine front cover in solvent.
Warning:Refer toSafety Glasses Warning.
Dry the engine front cover with compressed air.Inspection Procedure
Inspect the exterior of the engine front cover for thefollowing conditions:Damage to the water pump bolt holethreads-(7)Gouges or damage to the water pump sealingsurfaces-(6)Damage to the crankshaft front oil sealbore-(5)Damage to the camshaft position actuator valve oil sealbores-(1)Damage to the engine front cover boltholes-(2)Damage and/or corrosion to the engine coolantpassage-(3)Dents or damage to the exterior-(4)

Inspect the interior of the engine front cover for thefollowing conditions:Gouges or damage to the engine front cover sealing surfacesto the engine block-(6), oil pan-(4), and/orcamshaft covers-(2)Damage and/or corrosion to the engine coolantpassage-(5)Damage to the crankshaft front oil seal boreGouges or damage to the O-ring sealingareasGouges or damage to the water pump sealarea-(3)Damage to the engine front cover boltholes-(1)Repair or replace the engine front cover as necessary.
