Preliminary Procedures

Note:It is important to install the A/C compressor bolts in the proper order and torquedin proper sequence to ensure proper operation of the A/C compressor.

Recover the refrigerant. Refer toRefrigerant Recovery and Recharging.Raise and support the vehicle. Refer toLifting and Jacking the Vehicle.Remove engine splash shield right side. Refer toEngine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side.Remove the drive belt. Refer toDrive Belt Replacement.Remove the catalytic converter. Refer toCatalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side.Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.Remove the air conditioning compressor hose from the A/C compressor. Refer toAir Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement.

A/C Compressor Upper Bolt

Caution:Refer toFastener Caution.

Procedure

Install and hand tighten the compressor bolt.

Note:Tighten the A/C compressor mounting fasteners in sequence.

Tighten

58-Y (43-lb-ft)

A/C Compressor Rear Bolt

Procedure

Install and hand tighten the compressor bolt.

Note:Tighten the A/C compressor mounting fasteners in sequence.

Tighten

22-Y (16-lb-ft)

A/C Compressor Lower Bolt

Procedure

Install and hand tighten the compressor bolt.

Note:Tighten the A/C compressor mounting fasteners in sequence.

Tighten

58-Y (43-lb-ft)

A/C Compressor

ProcedureRemove and discard sealing washers and replace with NEW. Refer toAir Conditioning System Seal Replacement.When replacing the air conditioning compressor, balance the compressor oil. RefertoAir Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.
