Cleaning Procedure
Caution:Do not immerse the water pump in solvent. The solvent mayenter the water pump's permanently lubricated bearings and causepremature bearing failure.
Remove the old gasket material from the water pump sealingsurfaces.Clean all excess dirt and debris from the water pumphousing.Inspection Procedure
Rotate the water pump hub-(1). The water pump huband impeller should turn straight and smoothly. If the hub wobbles,is noisy, or feels rough when rotated, replace the waterpump.Inspect the exterior of the water pump for thefollowing:Damage to the water pump hub bolt threads-(2) forthe water pump pulleyDamage to the water pump bolt holes-(3)
Examine the water pump shaft-(1) and the weep holereservoir-(2) in the water pump body for signs ofleakage. If coolant leakage is evident, replace the waterpump.
Inspect the interior of the water pump for thefollowing:Damage to the water pump gasket sealingsurface-(1)Damage, corrosion or restrictions to the water pumpimpeller-(2)Damage, corrosion or restrictions to the coolantpassages-(3)Repair or replace the water pump as necessary.
